"Jessica was referred to my by a coworker who raved about her. I was on the fence about hiring a doula but since it was my first child and I knew nothing about anything, I wanted to have someone there to be a knowledgeable advocate for my husband and I. And am I glad I did! This is one of those things I file under "worth every penny"!
I had a long, excruciating labor and Jessica intervened on my behalf and made suggestions that really made a difference in my experience. I gave birth during a busy time so not only were there no rooms available, no staff was available either. This is definitely something you do not plan for! Luckily, Jessica stayed with me until the wee hours of the morning helping me labor through contractions and massaging my back pain. She made a crucial suggestion that I change positions that led to an end to hours of unbearable contractions. I could tell the late hours were wearing on her too and was happy to have a break so that she could rest as well.
It took me a long time to dilate so Jessica went home to rest. When it came time to push, we debated about having Jessica there and again, I'm glad I asked her to come. I thought I was headed towards the home stretch but I pushed for hours. Jessica made the suggestion to the nurses that my epidural dosage be cut in half so that I could push with my contractions. It worked and although it wasn't quite as easy as I thought it would be, I was very glad for her knowledge and expertise.
A few days after we came home from the hospital, Jessica came to visit me at home. It was really nice to be able to talk with her without being in labor! She was just as caring and attentive during my labor as during our postpartum visit. Jessica really made a huge difference and I highly recommend her to anyone who wants a little assistance. You don't have it do it alone! She was there for me in all ways possible and even my husband appreciated her help when he wasn't able to do so.
I don't think I'll have another but if I do I will definitely call and work with Jessica again!"
